In 1993 Steve graduated from University of Kansas School of Law, where he worked in the Paul E. Wilson Project for Innocence and Post-Conviction Remedies and the Legal Aid Clinic. From 1993 to 1998 Steve worked in the Kansas Public Defender system as both an appellate and trial attorney. Since 1998 Steve has worked as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Western District of Missouri. During that time, Steve has tried twenty-eight federal jury trials, twelve of which resulted in either acquittal, appellate reversal, hung jury, or conviction on lesser charges. On appeal Steve has secured reversals or remands in twenty cases. Steve also serves on the Amicus Committee for the National Association of Federal Defenders. In his spare time, Steve enjoys reading, games, and dogs.
